The New Orleans Saints beat the New York Giants for a second straight season on Sunday. And just like last year, a Saints’ player was named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week after beating the Giants.

Cornerback Martin Emerson received the honor after recording two second half interceptions, seven tackles and two passes defensed in the 34-27 victory at MetLife Stadium.

Emerson, who signed with the Saints in April, was playing in place of Kool-Aid McKinstry.

McKinstry was dealing with a migraine headache and had to leave the game early.

Last season, it was McKinstry who was named Defensive Player of the Week after a win over the Giants in the Superdome. McKinstry, like Emerson, had two interceptions to go along with 4 tackles in that win in 2025.

The Saints play the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday in Paris.

That game will also feature the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week. Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey won the AFC honor after recording 10 tackles, four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ramsey’s sack on fourth down sealed the comeback win and the Steelers improved to 4-2.

Emerson will be facing a familiar foe. He spent his first four seasons playing for the Cleveland Browns, who are in the NFC North with the Steelers.
