Moustapha Zeghba has emerged as a prime candidate for a recall to the Algeria national team ahead of the November international window, following recent struggles from Melvin Mastil and Abdellatif Ramdane during the latest training camp.
Algeria head coach Brahim Hemdani indicated that neither Melvin Mastil nor Abdellatif Ramdane entirely convinced the coaching staff during the national team’s most recent training camp. Consequently, both goalkeepers face the prospect of omission from the squad for the upcoming November gathering. Meanwhile, Luca Zidane is expected to rejoin the group after serving a suspension, leaving two roster spots open for competition.
Moustapha Zeghba enters the selection conversation on the back of a strong start to the season with MC Oran in the Ligue 1 Mobilis. The Oran club shares the top of the league standings with CR Belouizdad as co-leaders, backed by a defensive record that has seen them concede zero goals through the opening five matches of the campaign. Zeghba, who turns 36 soon, brings extensive international experience to the position, having previously featured under former coach Djamel Belmadi and made two Africa Cup of Nations appearances in 2021 and 2023, alongside the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.
With the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next summer, the technical staff is weighing the need for reliable stopgap options while developing long-term successors. Hemdani requires a secondary goalkeeper willing to accept a backup role while remaining prepared to step in immediately when called upon. Zeghba’s familiarity with the national setup and his current domestic form present a viable short-term solution for the squad’s immediate requirements in goal.
