Noelia Vigliarolo shared an emotional farewell on social media dedicated to Jorge “Roña” Castro following the wake of the former world boxing champion, who died at age 59. The post featured a black-and-white photograph of the couple accompanied by the message, “Until always, my great love for all life.”
The tribute follows sudden developments surrounding the boxer’s death from a heart attack at a bingo hall in Morón, Argentina. While family members and loved ones gathered to pay their respects at a funeral home in Morón, the wake drew friends and floral arrangements from groups including the barra of Boca and Leopardi Box.
Judicial sources confirmed that an autopsy conducted by forensic experts established the cause of death as an acute pulmonary edema brought on by cardiac failure. Specialists found no lesions on the body, ruling the death non-traumatic. Quimey Castro, the daughter of the former champion, told TN that her father began experiencing chest pains during an outing, noting that the medical emergency lasted roughly 15 minutes.

Witness accounts from the establishment introduced contrasting perspectives regarding the speed of medical intervention. Marcos Tolosa, a witness present at the venue, claimed in a statement reported by Radio Mitre that response times lagged and criticized the absence of medical personnel or an on-site ambulance at the Morón location.
Before publishing her public tribute, Vigliarolo spoke about facing difficulties during the immediate aftermath of Castro’s passing. Visibly distressed, she stated that she had not received direct notification of his death and remained unaware of funeral arrangements until later, pointing to underlying tensions with the family of the former boxer during the wake.
The couple had shared a three-year relationship, marked by plans for the future. Vigliarolo recounted that they had met at a nightclub three years prior and intended to hold a commitment ceremony in La Costa, alongside discussions about having a child together.
Born in Caleta Olivia in the Santa Cruz province, Castro built one of the best careers in the history of Argentine boxing. Across 144 bouts, he secured 130 victories—including 90 by knockout—alongside 11 losses and three draws, according to Noticias Argentinas.
His pinnacle achievement came on August 12, 1994, in Tucumán, where he captured the World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight title by defeating American Reggie Johnson. He later defended that belt in Mexico against John David Jackson in a bout regarded as one of the best in the history of world boxing, before eventually losing the title to Japanese fighter Shinji Takehara in Tokyo on December 19, 1995. His final professional fight took place on January 27, 2007, in Mar del Plata, where he defeated José Luis Herrera by technical knockout.
While judicial authorities and the forensic medical examination have established the natural, non-traumatic nature of the cardiac failure, questions persist regarding the emergency medical protocols at the Morón venue where the collapse occurred.
