TalkingPoints

Celtic are held to a draw again st Dundee United – what went wrong?

Goalkeeper

Sam Johnstone 5/10

On the ball, there were no issues with Sam Johnstone, but there are question marks over how he conceded Celtic’s second.

Defence

Colby Donovan 6/10

Colby Donovan has signed a new contract recently and got better as the game went on at Parkhead.

Dane Murray 7.5/10

A strong display from Celtic’s back-up centre-back, who has had a few good games during Cameron Carter-Vickers’ recent absence.

That includes a brilliant last-ditch tackle when Dundee United raced through on goal when the scores were 2-2.

Liam Scales 4/10

Got beat in the air for Dundee United’s first goal, but then he put the ball into the back of his own net for the opposition’s second.

Scales prides himself on defending his penalty box and being aggressive. But this simply wasn’t good enough.

However, the Irish international levelled the score in the second half with a brilliant header, so he has to get plus points from that even though he was poor from a defensive aspect.

Kieran Tierney 6.5/10

Created three chances during the game, and tried to attack Dundee United’s penalty area as much as possible before he was subbed off after 80 minutes.

Midfield

Benjamin Nygren 4/10

Benjamin Nygren had a brilliant chance to score in the first half after a brilliant flick from Hogh, but other than that, he couldn’t make the impact he would have liked. Subbed off after 80 minutes.

Callum McGregor 7/10

One of Celtic’s better midfielders. Winning the ball back. Feeding it forward and trying to keep the pressure on Dundee United.

Mika Baur 5.5/10

A mixed game from Mika Baur. Poor in the first half, carelessly losing the ball, but he was better in the second and should have scored after a brilliant ball from Haissem Hassan.

Attack

Camilo Duran 6.5/10

Worked well with Hogh for Celtic’s opening goal, his 11th goal in 18 matches in all competitions; played better on the right than down the middle after he was moved there for the second half.

Kasper Hogh 6.5/10

You can be critical of what Hogh has produced this season, but he had a fairly positive opening 45 minutes here before he was hooked.

Hogh played a key role in Duran opening the scoring, and was then involved in a brilliant move which Nygren nearly scored.

It was his fault that Celtic went 2-1 down at the break, which forced O’Neill to hook him off alongside Callum Osmand. His goal drought goes on.

Callum Osmand 4/10

Osmand has been lively this season, but this was one of his poorer games. Wasteful in the final third, losing the ball, and it wasn’t a surprise he was subbed off at half-time.

  • SUBS: Haissem Hassan (8/10), Jota (6.5/10), L. Emenalo (N/A), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (N/A) and S. Mheuka (N/A).
