Following on from a successful trial, Majekodunmi signed a one-year deal with Swindon Town after impressing during a trial period this summer, but many expected him to be a developmental prospect.
Injuries to other defenders saw the former Australian youth international start the opening game of the season at Northampton Town, and he has not looked back, starting nine of Town’s 13 matches. Only five outfielders have played more minutes for Town so far this season.
Majekodunmi has been so impressive that The Adver has heard from those with knowledge of the decision-making that even if Ryan Tafazolli and others had been fit, he still would have been starting.
Following on from another impressive display against Bristol Rovers, Majekodunmi assessed how he felt the season had gone for him so far.
He said: “This has been a really good season for me; I am just trying to improve in every game and give my best for the team. I just want to continue to grow as a player and as a person.
“I didn’t want to think too far ahead [when I arrived]; I just tried to know my role and do what I could do to help the team.
“So, I was never thinking that far ahead, but I am happy with how things have been so far.
“I definitely feel like I am improving as a player; I always want to grow with every game, so I just need to keep going and continue growing as a player to be better.”
Over the last few weeks, Swindon have begun working with a sports psychologist once a week to help them come together as a team to handle the pressure that Holloway believed was getting to them early in the season.
Claire, who worked with Richie Wellens’ Town side as they won League Two in 2019/20 and also his title-winning Leyton Orient team, has been giving the current crop exercises to help them grow together.
Ian Holloway believes that it has made a big difference to the team already, and Majekodunmi agreed that it had been very helpful.
He said: “I think those sessions have been really good. As an athlete, it is always important to work on the mental side of things, not just the physical aspects.
“That stuff is neglected in the game, so the work that we have been doing with Claire has been very beneficial to the team.”
