What a week.

I covered the Colts’ decision to trade Quenton Nelson to Seattle and DeForest Buckner to San Francisco on Tuesday in a previous post here at The Sweep and answered your questions in a special NFL Trade Deadline Mailbag. On Thursday morning, I broke the news of the Bears’ blockbuster trade for Jeffrey Simmons, and went deep on how that deal with the Titans went down on .

That’s a lot of in-season NFL trade action for late October … and we still have 10 days until the November 10 deadline.

In this edition of The Sweep, we’ll cover:

  • The latest on Jonathan Taylor, Brian Thomas Jr., Maxx Crosby, Khalil Mack, Kirk Cousins, and other big names ahead of the trade deadline

  • Why the Seahawks always seem to make a move

  • What the future looks like for Colts QB Daniel Jones

  • Micah Parsons’s return timeline

  • Why the Vikings believe in Kyler Murray

  • Dan Campbell’s fourth-down foibles

  • The real story behind Aaron Rodgers’s international game revelation

  • And more

As always, this dispatch is based on conversations with sources in and around the NFL.

Big Names, Big Trades?

Here’s where things stand on some of the players, like Jonathan Taylor and Tony Pollard, who have already been mentioned here at The Sweep as potential trade candidates, and what I’m hearing about some big names that are beginning to draw trade interest within the league as the deadline gets closer—Maxx Crosby, Khalil Mack, Kirk Cousins, and more:

  • Colts RB Jonathan Taylor: How expensive would it be to get Taylor out of Indianapolis? The Colts have already been offered a 2027 second-round draft pick plus an additional pick for Taylor—and they immediately rejected it. Even after trading Nelson and Buckner, the Colts aren’t in fire sale mode. Taylor is only 27, he is the face of the franchise, and he just signed a two-year, $44 million contract extension in August. The Colts won’t deal him for anything other than a premium haul—and rightfully so. The Colts haven’t told other teams exactly what they want for Taylor, but it makes sense they’d want something close to deal the Panthers got when they traded Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco in 2022 in exchange for 2023 second-, third-, and fourth-round picks plus a 2024 fifth-rounder. Taylor is due about $4.866 million for the rest of this season, including active roster bonuses. His $15 million base salary for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed five days after the Super Bowl.
