TAS orders postponement of CR Belouizdad’s CAF Confederation Cup tie

The CAF Confederation Cup match between CR Belouizdad and AS Douanes has been postponed indefinitely after an order from the Tribunal Arbitral du Sport (TAS), issued one day before the scheduled kick-off.

CR Belouizdad were due to visit AS Douanes in Nouakchott on Saturday for the first leg of their second preliminary-round tie. However, the fixture was called off following a ruling linked to an ongoing dispute between AS Douanes and Hafia FC.

Hafia FC announced the decision in a statement on Friday, the day before the match was due to take place. The Guinean club said the TAS had ordered the postponement while considering its challenge to a decision taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The TAS said its intervention was justified because “the CAF decision accepting force majeure contained no reasoning, and the club’s internal appeal before the CAF Appeal Jury, submitted on 16 September 2026, had remained unanswered”.

Hafia FC described the order as “an important victory for Hafia FC” as the legal process continues.

The club had lodged its appeal after CAF instructed AS Douanes and Hafia FC to replay the second leg of their first-round tie. That decision followed AS Douanes’ failure to appear in Conakry for the match on 11 September.

Hafia FC has argued that the decision to order a replay was “unfounded”. The Guinean side maintains that AS Douanes’ absence resulted from “avoidable organisational failures” for which the Mauritanian club was responsible.

The TAS order means the planned meeting between AS Douanes and CR Belouizdad cannot proceed until the dispute is resolved. The match has not been given a new date.

Should the final ruling go in Hafia FC’s favour, the club would be declared the winner by forfeit. In that scenario, the two-legged tie between CR Belouizdad and AS Douanes would be cancelled automatically.

Hafia FC would instead face CR Belouizdad, with the dates for those matches to be decided at a later stage.
