Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea means Manchester United have now gone nine games without a win, with their last victory coming at home to Sabah in their opening Champions League fixture on Sept. 10. Since then, the Red Devils have suffered back-to-back European defeats against Atlético Madrid and Como. Another loss would severely dent their hopes of reaching the round of 16 and could spell the end for Michael Carrick.
Roma, on the other hand, have enjoyed an excellent start to the season. They remain unbeaten in Serie A and have scored 16 goals in their last four fixtures. The Italians really should have beaten Real Madrid on Matchday 2 of the league phase but somehow contrived to concede three goals in the closing stages. In their other two Champions League games, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team drew away to Fenerbahçe and thumped Slovan Bratislava at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lineups are announced and players are warming up.
