Algeria have reached the semi-finals of the CAN de futsal 2026 for the first time, while holders Morocco completed the group stage with a third victory from three matches.
Making their debut in the competition, Algeria needed to beat Zambia in their final Group A fixture after losing 4-0 to Morocco and drawing 2-2 with Egypt. Noureddine Benamrouche’s side delivered under pressure, securing a 7-4 win in Rabat to claim a historic first victory at the CAN de futsal.
The Fennecs made the stronger start and quickly established a 4-0 lead. Zambia responded with three goals to reduce the deficit to 4-1, 4-2 and then 4-3, but Algeria regained control in the closing stages.
Walid Betterki was central to the result. The Vaulx-en-Velin pivot scored twice before half-time and added three more goals after the interval to complete a five-goal performance.
Algeria finish second in Group A and will face the winners of Group B for a place in the final.
Morocco ended their campaign in emphatic fashion, beating Libya 6-0. Libya, who won the bronze medal at the previous edition, were watched by Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Federation royale marocaine de football (FRMF), who was recently appointed Minister of Economy and Finance.
The hosts had already secured qualification before the final round of matches. Hicham Dguig’s team finish top of the group with three wins, scoring 17 goals and conceding none.
Morocco are the three-time defending champions and remain on course for a fourth consecutive title, which would be an unprecedented quadruple.
Their unbroken record in the group stage follows a campaign in which they have combined the competition’s strongest attack with an unblemished defensive record. Algeria’s progress, meanwhile, gives the debutants a place in the last four after recovering from their opening defeat by Morocco and their draw with Egypt.
