Coventry City boss Frank Lampard has made an honest admission about the challenge that lies ahead of his side as they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night.

A couple of weeks ago, Spurs may have relished the prospect of playing Coventry City at home, given that the Lilywhites are still looking for that elusive first league win of the season.

However, the newly promoted club have now won two games back-to-back and climbed up the Premier League table.

Not only did they emerge with a clean sheet and a win from the City Ground ahead of the international break, but Coventry followed that up by demolishing Newcastle at home last week.

The 4-1 win over the Magpies was a warning shot to Roberto De Zerbi’s side, with the game suddenly not looking as easy on paper as it did previously.

Coventry boss Frank Lampard has been impressed with Tottenham’s performances this season

Spurs have come in for plenty of criticism this season for their results, but their performances have been improving steadily, and we arguably saw the club’s best display of the season at Old Trafford.

The underlying stats show that Tottenham are in a false position in the table, and Lampard is certainly not expecting an easy game, admitting that the Sky Blues are coming against a quality side with a good coach.

When asked about Tottenham, Lampard said (via BBC Sport): “When I look at them play, they have a lot of quality with a very good coach. We worry about ourselves and the start we had on paper to where we’ve got to with these two wins makes us feel good, so it’s not the time for comparison.”

When asked what he expects from Spurs, the Chelsea legend said: “As [we’re] a promoted side, I’m sure they’ll have a feeling of confidence against us. That’s fine. We have to believe in ourselves and go there with our own confidence and play with the same purpose we did against Newcastle.”

Alan Shearer gives relegation warning to Spurs ahead of Coventry clash

While the nature of Tottenham’s comeback against Man Utd has created a sense of optimism surrounding the Lilywhites, things can change very quickly.

That was the warning given to De Zerbi by Alan Shearer, who believes Spurs will be in another relegation battle if they cannot beat Coventry.

The Newcastle legend said: “I know they did really well when down to 10 men, coming back and getting a Solanke goal. So, that in itself will give them a bit of confidence, but they need a win massively.

“If they don’t beat Coventry on Monday, then I think they’ll be in a massive relegation battle, and I think that’s how big a game it is.”
