Barcelona remains interested in Hull City defender Lucas Herrington after his move to the Premier League, according to Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk. The Spanish club has continued to monitor the Australian and is impressed by his performances in England.
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have also checked on the 19-year-old this season. Barcelona’s interest dates back to his time at Colorado Rapids, when he was linked with several leading European clubs before Hull completed a deal.
The report gives no indication that Hull or Herrington is considering a January move. The defender is only a few months into his time in England.
Herrington joined Hull in August on a five-year contract. The fee was undisclosed, although reports put the package at around £17 million including add-ons. Colorado confirmed that the transfer set a club sales record and that it retained a percentage of a future sale.
His progress has been rapid. After coming through Brisbane Roar’s academy and making his senior debut in 2024, he moved to Colorado at the start of this year. He made 18 MLS appearances before leaving, starting 17 matches and scoring once.
The defender also broke into Australia’s senior team in March and earned a place at the World Cup. He became the country’s youngest starter at the tournament against Paraguay, then played all 120 minutes of the round-of-32 meeting with Egypt.
Colorado coach Matt Wells praised his development after the Hull transfer, recalling that Herrington had initially hoped simply to earn some minutes in MLS. Within months, he had played at a World Cup and secured a Premier League move.
