History: Arsenal equal historic Premier League best-ever start

Arsenal have equalled their best-ever start to a Premier League season after collecting 27 points from their opening 10 matches of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Gunners reached the milestone following Saturday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Emirates Stadium, matching the points tally they achieved at the same stage of the 2022/23 season, blueprint reports.

Mikel Arteta’s side have recorded nine victories and suffered just one defeat in their opening 10 league fixtures, underlining their impressive consistency as they pursue another Premier League title.

The achievement is particularly significant as Arsenal have maintained their strong form despite the demands of competing across multiple competitions.

Their latest victory was secured through captain Martin Ødegaard’s 72nd-minute goal, which proved decisive against a stubborn Hull side.

The result also strengthened Arsenal’s position at the top of the table, leaving them six points ahead of Manchester City following the latter’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Arteta matches 2022/23 record

The achievement takes on added significance when compared with Arsenal’s 2022/23 campaign, when they also accumulated 27 points from their opening 10 Premier League matches.

On that occasion, the Gunners enjoyed an impressive start under Arteta and spent much of the campaign at the top of the table before eventually finishing second behind Manchester City.

The current side has now matched that points tally, although its goal difference of +10 is below the +14 recorded during the corresponding period in 2022/23.

According to Premier League statistics, Arsenal’s other notable starts include 26 points in 2007/08 and 25 points in each of the 2004/05, 2005/06 and 2013/14 campaigns.

Seven clean sheets underline defensive strength

Another important feature of Arsenal’s impressive start has been their defensive organisation.

The reigning champions have conceded just five goals in 10 league matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

Their defensive record has provided a strong foundation for their title defence, with the team demonstrating an ability to protect narrow advantages and remain organised under pressure.

The victories over Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Hull City were particularly notable, as Arsenal secured all three results without conceding.

However, Arteta will also want his attacking players to become more clinical after his side struggled to convert their dominance into goals against Hull.

Arsenal registered 21 attempts during Saturday’s encounter but needed Ødegaard’s 72nd-minute strike to settle the contest.

Arsenal send warning to title rivals

Arsenal’s record-equalling start has strengthened their position in the title race and reinforced their ambitions of retaining the Premier League crown.

Their five consecutive league victories have also demonstrated their ability to recover from their only defeat of the campaign, a 3-0 loss to Brighton in September.

The Gunners have responded to that setback with consistent performances, collecting maximum points in their subsequent five league fixtures.

Their six-point advantage over Manchester City following the latter’s defeat to Nottingham Forest has further strengthened their position heading into the international break.

Nevertheless, Arteta will be aware that matching the 2022/23 record is only one milestone in a much longer campaign.

On that occasion, Arsenal eventually surrendered their advantage to Manchester City, finishing second despite leading the title race for much of the season.

The challenge this time will be to maintain their consistency when the pressure intensifies during the second half of the campaign.

With 27 points from 10 matches, nine victories and just one defeat, the reigning champions have laid down an early marker.

For Arsenal, the ambition is no longer simply to reproduce their impressive start of 2022/23, but to go a step further by turning their record-equalling opening into another Premier League title for their fans.
