Rennes aim to extend perfect home run against in-form Olympiakos

Rennes host Olympiakos at Roazhon Park on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Europa League, with both sides unbeaten in the competition this season. The French club sit 13th after a 2-2 draw at Juventus, while Olympiakos are fifth, four points ahead following a 1-0 home victory over Sparta Prague.

Rennes have produced contrasting performances at home and away in 2026-27, in both Ligue 1 and Europe. At Roazhon Park, however, Franck Haise’s side have been unbeaten all season and are targeting a sixth successive home win.

They could also record consecutive home victories in the group stage of this competition for the first time since 2023.

Consistency has been an issue. Since September, Rennes have only once won two official matches in succession, while their defensive problems were exposed in a 5-2 Ligue 1 defeat by Nice last weekend. They have conceded 11 goals across their past four competitive fixtures.

Their record against Greek clubs in the Europa League is stronger: Rennes have won all of those meetings, conceding only one goal in each match.

Olympiakos arrive on a strong run

Olympiakos have improved considerably since being knocked out of Champions League qualifying by NEC Nijmegen, who overturned the tie to win 2-1 on aggregate.

Imanol Alguacil’s team have lost only one of their past 15 official matches and travel to France on a run of nine consecutive victories. They have also won their last five away games in all competitions. Their only away defeat this season was a 2-1 loss at NEC Nijmegen in the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Olympiakos are one of five teams with a perfect record in the Europa League’s league phase approaching the fourth round. They are unbeaten in their last 10 group-stage matches in the competition and, since a 3-1 defeat by AC Milan in 2018, have not lost away in the league phase after scoring first.

The Greek side have lost three of four Europa League meetings with French clubs, although their most recent trip to France brought a 1-0 win over Marseille at Stade Velodrome on matchday two.

Rennes’ Europa League form is NVN, with their overall record reading VVDNVD. Olympiakos have won their three Europa League matches and are on six successive victories in all competitions.

Team news and predictions

Ligue 1’s leading scorer Esteban Lepaul is expected to miss out while recovering from an ankle sprain. First-choice goalkeeper Brice Samba is doubtful with a leg injury.

Musa Al-Taamari and Boulaye Dia scored in the first half against Juventus, their first goals in the competition. Rennes’ suggested XI is Lemaitre; Ait Boudlal, Cresswell, Rouault; Reynolds, Cisse, Rongier, Camara, Thomasson; Al-Taamari, Mayenda.

Olympiakos are expected to be without Kostas Fortounis, Yusuf Yazici and Ayoub El Kaabi. Former Lille player Yazici has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, while El Kaabi has a fractured tibia.

Armando Gonzalez scored his second Europa League goal on matchday three and is the club’s leading scorer. Stefan Ortega needed to make only one save to claim his second clean sheet of the tournament. The predicted Olympiakos line-up is Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Onyemaechi; Freuler, Hezze; Martins, Chiquinho, Silva; Gonzalez.

The recommended selections are a Rennes win at 2.08, Boulaye Dia to be decisive at 2.15 and Adrien Thomasson to be decisive at 3.10. Rennes are expected to be more compact and defensively secure at home, while Olympiakos can be passive away from home.
