Roberto De Zerbi is not convinced Tottenham have done enough yet to be talked about as contenders for a European finish in the Premier League this season.
At the moment, Tottenham Hotspur cannot seem to stop winning, having secured victories in their last three Premier League outings.
That impressive run of form now has Roberto De Zerbi’s side up in ninth and just three points off fifth, which was good enough for Champions League qualification last season.
In fact, should Tottenham beat Leeds United this weekend and results elsewhere go their way, they could go into the November international break in a Champions League spot.
With the talk around Spurs now suggesting they could push for a European finish, and several pundits backing such a run given the upturn in form, De Zerbi is not buying into the hype.
The Tottenham boss instead believes his side are not yet ready for a European push. When asked what his goal for the season is, he told the club’s official media team: “The focus is (solely) on Leeds. A very tough game. One of the toughest stadiums in the Premier League with the atmosphere of the fans.
“We can’t forget the beginning of the season and the last season as well.”
Pressed on the possibility of a European push, the Italian added: “We have many, many targets but we can’t move our focus game-by-game. We are not good enough yet to change the focus.
“We are building something special, the atmosphere in the dressing room, a clear style of play, the players are playing much better than in the beginning, but we started three weeks ago.”

However, while there is a lot more optimism around Spurs now, this was far from the case early in the season, when they went winless in their first six Premier League games.
Things have since turned around for the Lilywhites, and De Zerbi has revealed that the upturn in form is down to his players now playing more like a team.
He said: “We are a team. We are a strong team. Before United, we were playing well but not as a team. This makes the biggest difference in football. Now we think as a team, we play as a team, we help each other on the pitch. The qualities of players are now showing on the pitch. It is a different mood and different mindset. I am very happy for that, more than the results.”
