The Norwegian midfielder reacted quickest to a rebound after Noni Madueke’s effort was saved by Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, finishing from close range to break the deadlock.

Arsenal dominated possession but struggled to break down a well-organised Hull defence in the first half.

The visitors also threatened, with John Egan heading narrowly wide before Elliot Stroud was denied by David Raya.

Arsenal thought they had won a penalty after Kai Havertz was pulled back in the box, but a VAR review overturned the decision after the German was ruled offside in the build-up.
