Medeama SC have suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season after a late FC Samartex 1996 winner, while Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko both responded to recent setbacks with victories on Matchday 7.
Christian Agyenim struck three minutes into injury time to give Samartex a 2-1 win over the defending champions at the Nsenkyire Arena. Joshuah Fuseini had put the hosts ahead in the 54th minute before Dominic Amponsah equalised for Medeama in the 79th.
Agyenim’s late finish secured all three points for Samartex, although Medeama remain top of the table on 14 points. They are level with Hearts of Oak and Samartex after seven matches.
Kotoko also returned to winning ways by beating Young Apostles 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium. Hubert Gyau broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, and Solomon Nsor Asaah added a second 12 minutes later.
Young Apostles reduced the deficit when Huziaf Iddrisu scored from a late direct free-kick, but Kotoko held on to claim a valuable victory and move up to sixth place. Young Apostles remain in the relegation zone.
Aduana recovered from their previous defeat with a 1-0 home victory over FC AshantiGold 04 at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park.
Abubakar Adams reacted quickest after Seidu Saana’s free-kick had been parried and scored the decisive goal in the 40th minute. AshantiGold’s hopes of rescuing a point were further damaged when Akwasi Afari was sent off.
Dreams FC secured a stoppage-time point in a 1-1 draw with Port City at the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park. Samuel Aryee Baadu gave the home side the lead shortly after half-time with a powerful effort, but Kelvin Ahiable scored late to deny Port City victory.
Dreams remain bottom of the standings, although the point ended the match on a positive note for the visitors.
Swedru All Blacks continued their strong home form with a 2-0 win over Karela United. Eric Wiafe Darkwah converted a ninth-minute penalty before setting up Faisal Charwetey for the second goal in the 59th minute.
The result gave the Black Magicians consecutive league victories. Karela, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first away point of the campaign.
Basake Holy Stars preserved their perfect home record by beating Bechem United 1-0 at the AAK II Park. Bismark Teye Tetteh scored early in the second half as Holy Stars returned to winning ways and climbed to fifth.
Bechem United have now gone five Premier League matches without beating Holy Stars.
Debibi United moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars at Debibi Presby Park. Maxwell Agyemang scored just before half-time to end the hosts’ three-match winless run.
The result left Debibi level with Gold Stars on seven points and gave the league newcomers an important boost. Gold Stars missed the chance to build on their win from the previous weekend.
At the top, Medeama, Hearts of Oak and Samartex remain level on 14 points after seven matches, while Kotoko and Aduana gained momentum and Dreams and Debibi made progress in their respective battles near the bottom.
