Swedish-born Ghanaian youngster Raymond Adjei leaves Östers IF

The 22-year-old defender of Ghanaian heritage is severing ties with the Swedish second-tier campaigners in this upcoming winter transfer window

Superettan side Östers IF and Swedish-born Ghanaian defender Raymond Adjei are going their separate ways after spending three seasons together in the Swedish football competitions, the club have confirmed.

The promising right-back, who linked up with the Visma Arena outfit from Allsvenskan giants Malmö FF during the winter window of 2024, has mutually agreed to part company with the former top-flight side after both parties failed to exercise their option over an extension to a further year ahead of the opening of the January transfer market.

A statement confirming the departure of the Ghana-prospect starlet read: ''After three seasons in the red-blue Österreich jersey, it is now clear that Raymond Adjei will leave the club at the turn of the year.

''Adjei signed a new two-year contract for the 2026 season, with the second year being an option year. Now Öster and Adjei have mutually agreed not to use the option year. The 22-year-old fullback has so far been listed for 49 competitive matches in Öster.''

Adjei had this to tell the club's official website: ''I have had three great years here in Öster. Now I feel it is time for a new challenge in my career. I thank everyone involved for my time here and I hope things go well for the club in the future.''

Sporting director Ola Larsson added: ''I think that "Ray" has taken big steps in his development during the season and he has been very professional even during the autumn when there has not been as much playing time. We have had good conversations where we have since agreed to go our separate ways for 2027. I wish him good luck in his continued career.''

Adjei, who graduated from the youth ranks of Malmo FF, is still qualified to switch international allegiances from Sweden to Ghana by playing for the Black Stars at the international level despite playing for Sweden U15 & U18 national youth teams so far in his international football career.
