Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri ahead of the January transfer window, with the possibility of a rare transfer between the two Manchester rivals emerging.
According to reports, United have identified the 25-year-old Algeria international as a potential reinforcement for their defence.
Aït-Nouri is reportedly open to leaving City due to limited playing opportunities, while personal terms are not expected to present a problem should United make a formal approach.
However, negotiations between the two clubs could prove difficult because of their fierce rivalry.
Sky Sport Germany reports that City have already rejected an approach from United and are reluctant to strengthen their neighbours by allowing the defender to move across Manchester.
Aït-Nouri joined City from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2025 for approximately £31.5 million. He previously established himself as one of the Premier League’s attacking full-backs during his time at Wolves.
His limited involvement at the Etihad Stadium has reportedly increased his willingness to consider a move in search of regular first-team football.
United are looking to strengthen their left-back position, where injuries and a lack of depth have created problems for manager Michael Carrick.
A move would be particularly significant given the rivalry between the clubs. The last senior player to move directly from Manchester City to Manchester United was Owen Hargreaves in 2011.
