Ghana’s Black Meteors have arrived in Benghazi, Libya, ahead of a crucial CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying showdown against the North African side on Wednesday, November 11, 2026.
Head coach Desmond Ofei and his squad touched down at Benina International Airport on Sunday, as they step up preparations for the decisive qualification campaign.
The Ghanaian side will face Libya in the first leg of the second preliminary round at the Benghazi International Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm local time (5pm Ghana time).
Ofei’s men will be targeting a positive result on Libyan soil to strengthen their chances ahead of the return leg in Ghana, knowing that victory over the two legs will secure passage to the next qualifying round.
The winner of the tie will advance to face either Equatorial Guinea or Niger as the race for a place at the 2027 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations intensifies.
Ghana received a bye in the first round of the three-stage qualification series, with seven teams expected to join hosts Egypt for the eight-team 2027 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana last featured in Olympic men's football at the 2004 Athens Games, and qualification for the 2027 U-23 AFCON would represent a significant step towards a potential return to the global sporting stage.
