Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was snubbed from Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, despite his stellar performances for Everton this season. But he issued an immediate retort to this decision.

On current form, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall should have been nailed on to join Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the next round of Nations League fixtures. Tuchel has stated Dewsbury-Hall was close to getting the call, but ultimately, Jobe Bellingham was chosen ahead of him.

James Garner was called up from the Everton midfield ranks, but Dewsbury-Hall was also deserving, only to be snubbed. However, being the model professional he is, you won’t see the Everton man sulking. He did his talking on the pitch instead.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall goal for Everton is a message to Thomas Tuchel

Everton are on fire right now, winning three games on the trot and sit fifth in the Premier League prior to a ball being kicked on Saturday. A huge part of this has been Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with the midfielder becoming David Moyes’ best player and biggest catalyst for success.

That is why it was so disappointing that he wasn’t called up, because he is absolutely deserving. Against Coventry on Friday night, he continued this form with a goal, adding the third goal to make it 3-1.

It was a fantastic and emphatic finish from Dewsbury-Hall, and his celebration showed just how much it and the success Everton are having meant to him. The goal was almost a statement to Tuchel for leaving him out, striking with such power and anger, taking it out on the ball and Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

  • 66 touches
  • 37/42 passes completed
  • 2 shots
  • 1 goal
  • 2 tackles
  • 5 duels won
  • 3 recoveries
  • 11.9 km covered

It was altogether another fantastic performance that should have Tuchel and his staff cursing the decision not to call him up over Jobe Bellingham, for example. It is, however, a sign of how well Everton are doing that there are three representatives in the England squad and that there should have been a fourth.

As frustrated as Dewsbury-Hall must feel right now, the fact is that if he and Everton play like this consistently for the rest of this season, Tuchel won’t be able to deny him.

With the quality he has shown here, Dewsbury-Hall will have Tuchel asking the question, especially if the next few Nations League games don’t go well. The question will be whether or not the Everton man would have been a better choice.

Tuchel is often criticised for his team selections, and snubbing Dewsbury-Hall could end up being a big mistake. However, it does mean he will be fresh for Everton with two weeks off.
