Ghana Premier League Matchday 8 preview

The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League continues this weekend with Matchday 8, featuring a major clash between league leaders Medeama SC and Aduana FC in Tarkwa, while Asante Kotoko travel to Obuasi for an Ashanti derby against FC Ashanti Gold’04.

With the early-season race for the top positions heating up, several clubs will also be looking to improve their form as the battle for points continues at both ends of the table.

Medeama, Aduana prepare for Tarkwa showdown

Medeama SC will look to return to winning ways when they host fourth-placed Aduana FC at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium after suffering their first defeat of the season.

The Mauve and Yellow have collected 14 points from seven matches and boast the league’s most potent attack, having scored 13 goals.

Aduana are just one point behind the leaders and travel to Tarkwa after securing a 1-0 victory over FC Ashanti Gold’04.

The Fire Club have conceded only four goals this season, making them one of the league’s strongest defensive sides. They will face a difficult test against Medeama, who have won their last seven home league matches.

Kotoko face tough Ashanti derby test

Asante Kotoko head to Obuasi to take on FC Ashanti Gold’04 at the Len Clay Stadium, hoping to record consecutive league victories for the first time this season after beating Young Apostles 2-1.

The Porcupine Warriors, however, have struggled on the road and are without a win in their last three away league matches.

Ashanti Gold’04 will be confident of their chances, having won all three home matches since returning to the top flight.

With just one point separating the sides, Sunday’s encounter presents an opportunity for either team to strengthen its position in the league standings.

Dreams FC seek first win against Vision FC

Dreams FC remain in search of their first league victory as they prepare to host Vision FC at the Tuba Astro Turf.

The Still Believe lads sit at the bottom of the table with three points from seven matches, having recorded three draws and four defeats.

Their 1-1 draw against Port City FC last weekend offered some encouragement, but their defensive problems remain a concern after conceding 11 goals.

Vision FC are also struggling for results, having gone five consecutive matches without a win and finding themselves in the relegation zone.

Both teams will see the fixture as an important chance to turn their seasons around.

Samartex face in-form Berekum Chelsea

FC Samartex 1996 travel to Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea, who are aiming for a third straight league victory.

Chelsea head into the match on the back of a 2-0 away win over Heart of Lions, while Samartex boosted their campaign with a 2-1 victory over league leaders Medeama SC to move into third place.

The Timber Giants will also be looking to improve their record in Berekum, where they have failed to score in their previous four league visits.

Bechem United host Debibi United in Bono-area clash

Bechem United welcome newly promoted Debibi United FC to Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in a contest between two sides hoping to build momentum.

The Hunters suffered a narrow defeat to Basake Holy Stars last weekend but have been strong at home, winning all three of their league matches at the venue this season.

Debibi United, meanwhile, ended a three-match losing run with a 1-0 victory over Gold Stars. They will look to carry that confidence into another challenging away fixture.

Port City face difficult trip to Karela United

Newly promoted Port City FC travel to Tamale to face Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Karela will be looking to bounce back after losing 2-0 to Swedru All Blacks. Their home form offers encouragement, however, as they have won all three league matches at the venue this season.

Port City sit sixth with 11 points and will aim to end a two-match winless run while maintaining their place among the league’s leading teams.

Swedru All Blacks aim to extend winning run

Swedru All Blacks travel to Wenchi to face Young Apostles, hoping to build on consecutive victories that have lifted them to seventh place with 11 points.

Young Apostles have endured a difficult start to the campaign and sit 17th after losing five of their seven matches.

Their home form has provided some relief, with both of their league victories coming on home soil. However, they face a Swedru side growing in confidence and eager to continue its climb up the standings.
