German forward of Ghanaian descent Jamie Leweling was on target for VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday night, helping the team to earn a point from a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid.

The match played at MHPArena is the third match for both teams in the league phase of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

On the matchday, Leweling opened the scoring for Stuttgart with an impressive finish in the 36th minute.

The forward received the ball on the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a brilliant shot into the left side of the goal to give the home side the advantage.

Atletico responded shortly after the restart, with Julian Alvarez bringing the visitors level in the 47th minute.

The Argentine forward received a through ball from Ademola Lookman inside the penalty area before quickly firing into the top-right corner to make it 1-1.

The equaliser ensured the Spanish side recovered from their first-half deficit and set up a tense contest in Germany.

However, Atletico’s task became more difficult in the 64th minute when Morten Hjulmand was sent off after being shown a straight red card.

Despite their numerical advantage, Stuttgart were unable to find a winning goal before the final whistle.

Jamie Leweling, who started the match, played 72 minutes before being replaced by Ermedin Demirovic.
