Germany challenge awaits Morocco after emphatic U17 World Cup opener

Morocco will meet Germany on Tuesday with the chance to move clear at the top of Group A at the Women’s U17 World Cup.

The match takes place on 20 October 2026 at 18:00 Moroccan time at the Complexe Mohammed VI de football in Sale. Kick-off is at 19:00 in France.

The fixture is the second round of group matches at a tournament being staged in Morocco from 17 October to 7 November. The group’s other game sees Argentina play New Zealand at 15:00.

In Morocco, the match will be shown on Arryadia TNT and will also be available on SNRT Live. beIN Sports is among the broadcasters listed for the Middle East and North Africa region.

The game will also be streamed free of charge on FIFA+, the official FIFA platform, in the majority of territories. FIFA has confirmed that every match in the competition will be shown live there. In Germany, the fixture will additionally be broadcast on DAZN.

Both sides made winning starts to the tournament, although Morocco’s opening victory was considerably more convincing.

Backed by their home support, the Lioncelles de l’Atlas defeated New Zealand 4-0. Morocco had been unable to turn their dominance into goals for much of the contest, but Youness Rabie’s side pulled away after the interval.

Sonia Abajiou opened the scoring before a New Zealand own goal increased Morocco’s advantage. Imane Dhissi then added a third, with Hiba Youssoufi completing the victory from the penalty spot.

Youssoufi provided an assist as well as scoring and was named player of the match. The result placed Morocco at the summit of Group A on goal difference.

Germany, one of the opponents Morocco were drawn to face in May, had to work harder for their points against Argentina. The European champions at this age group conceded early but recovered to win 2-1, with captain Johanna Hebben playing a key role in the turnaround.

Tuesday’s meeting will give one of the two teams a significant opportunity to strengthen their prospects of reaching the knockout phase. The top two teams in each group, along with the four best third-placed sides, will progress to the last 16.

Morocco’s opening performance announced their potential, but Germany represent a stronger test of the hosts’ ambitions and their ability to compete with one of European women’s football’s leading nations at youth level.
