Former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew has disclosed that several figures within Ghana’s football community have approached him and encouraged him to contest the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
According to a GHOne TV report on Monday, October 19, 2026, Ayew said the calls had come from various stakeholders who believe his experience, reputation and long service to Ghanaian football could make him a suitable candidate to lead the country’s football administration.
Ayew is one of Ghana’s most recognisable footballers, having captained the Black Stars for several years and represented the country in multiple Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup tournaments. His professional career has also taken him to clubs across Europe and the Middle East.
His experience with the national team has prompted discussion about the perspective he could bring to the GFA presidency, particularly on issues involving player welfare, national-team management and the challenges facing Ghanaian football.
However, Ayew has not publicly confirmed whether he intends to contest the position. His disclosure has therefore raised questions about a possible candidacy without establishing that he has entered the race.
The GFA president oversees key aspects of the country’s football administration, including national teams, domestic competitions, grassroots development and relations with international governing bodies such as the Confederation of African Football and FIFA.
The development comes amid continuing calls from football stakeholders for greater transparency, professionalism and stronger structures to support player development.
Ayew’s next move will be closely watched by football followers, but any decision to contest the presidency remains unconfirmed.
