2026/27 GHPL MD8 wrap: Medeama beat Aduana to go top as AshantiGold 04, Kotoko share spoils
Medeama against Aduana

Medeama SC returned to the top of the Ghana Premier League table after a narrow victory over Aduana FC, while debutants Port City FC claimed a surprise win against Karela United as Matchday 8 concluded.

The matches were played across various venues from Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, October 25, in the 2026/27 campaign.

Hearts of Oak began the weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars on Saturday, with Martin Kakari scoring a late winner to secure all three points for the Phobians.

On Sunday, AshantiGold 04 and Asante Kotoko shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Len Clay Stadium.

Samuel Boateng Fosu put the home side ahead in the 40th minute, but Patrick Asiedu restored parity for the Porcupine Warriors with a powerful free-kick in the 60th minute.

Bechem United recorded one of the biggest wins of the weekend, beating newly promoted Debibi United 3-0 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Isaiah Nyarko opened the scoring in the first half before Kelvin Appiah struck twice after the break to seal a comfortable victory for the Hunters.

Berekum Chelsea and FC Samartex played out a goalless draw at the Golden City Park, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.

At DUN’s Park, Bibiani Gold Stars snatched a dramatic late victory over Heart of Lions in a 2-1 win.

Kwame Opoku converted a penalty in the 25th minute to give the home side a first-half lead. Heart of Lions responded in the closing stages, with Stephen Afoakwah equalising four minutes from time.

However, Godfred John Arthur struck deep into added time to secure all three points for Gold Stars.

Vision FC produced an impressive performance to defeat Dreams FC 3-1 at the Tuba Astro Turf.

Setsofia Agetey opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Sherif Mohammed Iddrisu scored twice to give Vision a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.

Dreams FC pulled one back after the break through an Ibrahim Larbi own goal, but it proved insufficient to spark a comeback.

Debutants Port City FC also made headlines with a 2-1 away victory over Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Owusu Ansah put Port City ahead in the 70th minute. Karela appeared to have rescued a point when Iddi Mahfuz equalised with three minutes remaining, but Ansah struck again two minutes later to secure a memorable win for the visitors.

Defending champions Medeama SC returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the TNA Park.

Nana Kofi Babil scored a late winner to hand the Yellow and Mauve side three crucial points and move them back to the summit of the league table.

At the Wenchi Stadium, Young Apostles suffered a 2-1 defeat against Swedru All Blacks.

Williams Dankwah opened the scoring for All Blacks in the 64th minute before Godfred Yartey doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Mumuni Illiasu scored a consolation for the hosts, but the visitors held on for the win.

At the end of Matchday 8, Medeama SC lead the standings, with Hearts of Oak, FC Samartex and Port City FC completing the top four.

At the other end of the table, Debibi United, Young Apostles and Dreams FC occupy the relegation zone as the battle for survival intensifies.
