Vinícius Júnior Faces Four-Match Domestic Ban
Vinícius Júnior erlebt eine schwere Phase seiner Karriere

Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior faces a four-match domestic suspension and will miss the upcoming Clásico against FC Barcelona following a red card issued during a La Liga fixture. The disciplinary sanction, handed down by Spanish football authorities, marks a difficult juncture in the 26-year-old’s season as he attempts to regain his best form amid ongoing on-field struggles and a fluctuating scoring record.

The Red Card Against Villarreal

The disciplinary trouble stems from Real Madrid’s 1–0 victory over Villarreal. Vinícius appeared to have given his side the lead in the second half after entering the match as a 52nd-minute substitute, converting a pass from teammate Jude Bellingham to spark celebrations at the Santiago Bernabéu. However, a video assistant referee intervention prompted the referee to review the preceding play on the pitchside monitor. The official identified an incident of hair-pulling involving Vinícius and Villarreal-Profi Nathan Saliba, leading to the cancellation of the goal and a straight red card for the Brazilian forward.

Clásico Absence and Domestic Suspension

Spanish disciplinary judges imposed a four-match ban following the incident, ruling Vinícius out of multiple fixtures. Beyond missing a league encounter against Sevilla, the suspension prevents him from participating in the October 25 Clásico fixture against Barcelona. The absence arrives just as the forward sought to build momentum after an inconsistent start to the campaign, which includes a single league goal scored against Real Sociedad in late August.

Managerial Defense and Media Scrutiny

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho defended his player publicly prior to the Villarreal fixture, expressing sympathy for the difficulties the forward has encountered. Following the red card incident, defender Antonio Rüdiger intervened to prevent Vinícius from approaching the match official. The penalty and subsequent ban drew significant attention in the sporting press, with the Spanish newspaper Marca labeling the situation a career low point, while British publication The Athletic questioned the player’s recent form.

Self-Assessment and Past Resilience

Addressing his current form following a 4–3 Champions League victory over Roma, Vinícius acknowledged his struggles in a self-critical assessment. “I am angry with myself because I am not showing my best version. At the end, Viní always comes back, and I have no doubt that I will come back,” the forward said. He also pointed to his early years in Madrid, noting that he had overcome initial skepticism to score more than 100 goals for the club.

Next Fixture Against RB Leipzig

While domestic fixtures remain closed to him during the suspension, Vinícius is expected to return to the starting lineup for Real Madrid’s upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig at home.
