Report: Update on WWE trademark dispute for former champion

F4WOnline has reported that the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued a non-final action refusing a trademark application for “RKO” for merchandise and other purposes.

The application was filed in July to trademark the name of Randy Orton’s finishing move, with the Office denying it due to a “likelihood of confusion” with other trademarks owned by Hollywood studio RKO Pictures.

As part of the response, the Office has asked WWE to explain the significance of “RKO” in wrestling.

The former WWE Champion has used the name for his finisher for more than two decades, representing his initials (Randal Keith Orton).

The dispute on the trademark has not affected Orton’s ability to perform the move itself.
