Liverpool are expected to be without Jeremie Frimpong for their Premier League meeting with Arsenal, with manager Andoni Iraola indicating that the defender may not return until the November international break.
Iraola provided separate updates on Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai, revealing that the two players face different recovery timelines as Liverpool prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
Szoboszlai recently experienced discomfort after returning from injury, prompting concerns that he might have suffered another setback. However, Iraola confirmed that the midfielder’s hamstring problem had not deteriorated significantly.
The Liverpool manager explained that Szoboszlai’s condition remained largely unchanged from the previous week. Although he could miss the next two games, the club expects him to recover fully afterwards, provided his rehabilitation progresses as planned.
Frimpong’s situation is more concerning. The defender sustained a fresh muscle injury just minutes after coming on during his previous appearance, leaving Liverpool uncertain about when he will be available again.
Iraola acknowledged the difference between the two cases, explaining that Frimpong’s injury occurred almost immediately after he entered the match, making it difficult to establish a reliable recovery schedule.
Liverpool will try to get the defender fit before the international break, but the manager admitted that meeting this target could prove challenging.
The contrasting injury updates could influence Liverpool’s preparations for Arsenal’s visit to Anfield on November 1. Frimpong appears unlikely to feature, while Szoboszlai’s availability will depend on how he responds to treatment and recovery work.
Before facing Arsenal, Liverpool are scheduled to host Villarreal in the Champions League, Brighton in the Premier League and Chelsea in the League Cup. The sequence of home fixtures will give the coaching staff opportunities to manage workloads while assessing the injured players.
After the Arsenal encounter, Liverpool are due to travel to face Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before the international break, potentially providing Frimpong with further time to recover.
