According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon has insisted that Real Madrid were not the better side in their recent El Clasico clash, despite Jose Mourinho's team securing a 2-1 victory at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Real Madrid claimed all three points against their bitter rivals in a closely watched encounter, with Mourinho's tactical approach helping Los Blancos overcome Hansi Flick's Barcelona.
Madrid entered the match as underdogs following Barcelona's impressive start to the season. However, the Spanish giants produced a strong performance to secure an important away victory.
Despite the defeat, Gordon believes Barcelona had enough quality to win the encounter and does not consider Real Madrid a superior team.
Speaking as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the English winger also rejected suggestions that Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are better than Barcelona.
"Are PSG and Real Madrid better than Barcelona? I don't think so. We take responsibility for the two defeats, but I don't think they're better than us," Gordon said.
The Barcelona winger maintained that his team remain capable of competing with Europe's top clubs, adding that their recent defeats have not changed his belief in the quality of the squad.
He also suggested that Barcelona should have beaten Mourinho's side, pointing to their possession and attacking opportunities during the match.
Gordon also addressed Barcelona's defeat to PSG, suggesting that the French club benefited from having the weekend off before facing the Catalan side.
According to the winger, the additional rest gave PSG an advantage over Barcelona.
Meanwhile, statistics from the El Clasico showed that Barcelona enjoyed 62 per cent possession and recorded 18 shots, compared to Real Madrid's 10.
However, the figures do not tell the full story of the encounter.
Real Madrid registered approximately 1.94 expected goals compared to Barcelona's 1.19 and created four big chances, highlighting their greater efficiency in front of goal.
Mourinho deliberately allowed Barcelona to dominate possession while keeping his team organised defensively and looking for opportunities to threaten on the counter-attack.
His tactical approach proved effective, as Madrid limited Barcelona's attacking threat and made better use of their chances.
The victory marked another important result for Mourinho, whose tactical adjustments have helped Real Madrid maintain an impressive run of form.
Although Gordon remains convinced that Barcelona had the quality to win the encounter, Real Madrid have already secured the victory, strengthening their position in the title race.
