Barcelona could receive around €11 million if Paris Saint-Germain complete a reported €55 million move for Real Betis winger Ez Abde during an upcoming transfer window. The potential payment stems from an agreement reached when the Moroccan international left the Catalan club for Betis in September 2023, with Barcelona retaining a 20 per cent share of his future transfer rights.
PSG are reportedly considering Abde as a possible addition to their attacking options after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sustained a serious knee injury. The French champions are assessing potential reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, with manager Luis Enrique understood to be examining several candidates who could strengthen his forward line.
Kvaratskhelia suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during PSG's Champions League encounter against Barcelona. The injury is expected to keep the Georgian international out of action for several months, creating a significant challenge for the Parisian side as they consider how to maintain their attacking threat during his absence.
Abde has reportedly emerged as one of the players being monitored by PSG. The 24-year-old has attracted attention through his performances for Real Betis, making him a potential option as the French club explore alternatives. However, interest in the winger does not necessarily mean a transfer will be completed, as negotiations would depend on the clubs' respective positions and the player's circumstances.
Barcelona no longer have direct control over Abde's future after selling him to Betis in 2023. Nevertheless, the financial arrangement between the clubs means they could still benefit if the winger secures a substantial move away from the Spanish side.
Betis are reportedly determined to protect the value of one of their attacking assets and are unwilling to sanction a transfer for a reduced fee. During the summer transfer window, the club were said to have placed a valuation of at least €55 million on Abde, a figure approaching the €60 million release clause included in his contract.
The Spanish club signed Abde from Barcelona for approximately €7.5 million in September 2023. As part of that transaction, the Catalan side retained 20 per cent of any future transfer fee, leaving them positioned to receive a considerable payment if Betis agree to sell him for the reported amount.
A transfer worth €55 million would therefore generate an estimated €11 million for Barcelona under the retained percentage arrangement. Such income would offer the club a financial benefit without requiring it to participate directly in negotiations between PSG and Betis.
However, the projected payment remains dependent on whether PSG formalise their interest, whether Betis accept an offer and the final terms of any agreement. Until a transfer is completed, Barcelona's potential earnings remain speculative rather than guaranteed.
