According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo is expected to be sidelined for around four weeks after suffering an adductor tear during Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
According to SPORT journalist Carlos Monfort, the injury is a major setback for Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick ahead of Sunday’s important El Clasico clash against Real Madrid.
Olmo sustained the injury around the 26th minute at the Parc des Princes when PSG midfielder Vitinha accidentally stepped on him, causing him to land awkwardly and experience significant pain.
Barcelona’s medical staff quickly attended to the Spain international as concerns grew over the seriousness of the problem. Olmo initially tried to assess whether he could continue, but the discomfort eventually forced him to leave the pitch.
Fermin Lopez came on as his replacement, leaving Flick without one of his attacking midfield options for the remainder of the match. Olmo’s difficulty walking comfortably after the incident further raised concerns about his condition.
Medical examinations reportedly revealed an impact-related tear to his adductor muscle. Although Barcelona have yet to issue an official statement, the midfielder is expected to require approximately four weeks to recover, depending on his progress.
The injury comes at a frustrating time for Olmo, who had recently begun rebuilding his confidence after ending his goal drought. The Spanish midfielder was gradually rediscovering the form that made him an important figure in Barcelona’s attack.
His inclusion in the starting lineup against PSG offered another opportunity to build momentum, but his involvement lasted just 27 minutes. His absence will leave Barcelona without a midfielder known for making dangerous forward runs and creating attacking threats inside the opposition’s penalty area.
Olmo is also expected to miss Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid, a match that could have major implications for the La Liga title race. His absence presents Flick with the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for the crucial encounter.
Barcelona must now deal with another selection concern, with Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde also having suffered injuries. Flick will need to manage his available players carefully as the Catalan club prepare for a demanding period that could significantly affect their domestic campaign.
