According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, manager Andoni Iraola expects defender Jeremie Frimpong to remain sidelined until the November international break, meaning Liverpool are likely to be without the player for their upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal.
On Monday, Iraola provided separate updates on the fitness of Frimpong and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, explaining that one player faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines while the other is gradually approaching a return to action.
There have been concerns about another setback for Szoboszlai after he experienced discomfort while attempting to return from injury. However, Liverpool supporters have received some positive news, as Iraola confirmed that the midfielder’s hamstring problem has not significantly worsened.
According to the Liverpool manager, Szoboszlai’s condition remains largely unchanged from last week. Although the midfielder could miss the next two matches, he is expected to become available again afterwards if his recovery continues as anticipated.
Frimpong, meanwhile, has suffered a fresh muscle injury shortly after his previous appearance, raising concerns about his availability. Liverpool are still uncertain about when the defender will be fit enough to return to the squad.
Iraola explained that the two situations are different, revealing that Frimpong sustained his latest muscle problem within the opening minutes of his appearance. This has made it difficult for the club to determine how long his recovery will take.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the defender’s condition, the manager indicated that Liverpool would make efforts to get him back before the November international break, although achieving that target could prove difficult.
Regarding Szoboszlai, Iraola reiterated that the midfielder has not aggravated his existing injury. Liverpool are expected to exercise patience while he completes his recovery and regains full fitness.
Given the contrasting nature of their injuries, Frimpong is unlikely to feature when Arsenal visit Anfield on November 1, while Szoboszlai has a better chance of returning to the starting lineup.
Before facing Arsenal, Liverpool have several important fixtures to navigate, including a Premier League encounter against Brighton, a Champions League meeting with Villarreal and a League Cup tie against Chelsea.
All three matches are scheduled to take place at Anfield, giving Liverpool an opportunity to monitor the progress of both players closely and make appropriate decisions regarding their availability.
With further fixtures against Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace scheduled before the November international break, Frimpong could have additional time to recover following Arsenal’s visit.
