Appiah Stadium has made an emotional appeal to former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, going down on his knees to urge the Ghanaian football legend to take up a leadership role in the country’s football administration.
In his plea, Appiah Stadium praised Gyan’s football knowledge, popularity and standing among Ghanaian supporters, arguing that the former striker could help address concerns about the state of the game.
“Asamoah Gyan, I really like you. You have football knowledge, and people love you. Legend, I am on my knees begging you to come and save our football,” he said.
Appiah Stadium described the gesture as a sign of how highly he regards the former Black Stars captain. He claimed that he only kneels before President John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene, making his appeal to Gyan an unusual expression of his admiration.
“For me to do this, it means you are very special. Ghana football has been disgraced,” he added.
His comments come amid discussions about the future leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with the association’s next presidential election expected in 2027.
Kurt Okraku has led the GFA since 2019, but he has not confirmed whether he intends to seek a third term. Appiah Stadium’s appeal reflects his personal call for a change in leadership, although it does not establish that Gyan is considering a bid for the position.
Gyan, one of Ghana’s most recognisable football figures, was appointed a GFA ambassador for the national teams and colts’ football in May 2026. The appointment gives him a role connected to promoting the national teams and youth football, but there has been no confirmation that he intends to move into the association’s top leadership position.
Appiah Stadium’s appeal therefore places the former striker at the centre of a conversation about the direction of Ghanaian football as attention gradually turns towards the 2027 election.
Whether Gyan will respond to the request or pursue a formal administrative role remains unclear. For now, the appeal is a public expression of Appiah Stadium’s belief that the former captain’s experience, football knowledge and popularity could be valuable to the sport’s leadership.
No formal announcement has been made indicating that Gyan intends to challenge Okraku or contest the GFA presidency.
