According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Friday, October 30, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided a fresh injury update ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United, confirming the availability of Moises Caicedo and addressing the situations of Maxence Lacroix, Pep Chavarria, Jorrel Hato and Emi Martinez.
Chelsea will welcome Caicedo back after the midfielder raised fitness concerns during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. The Ecuadorian started the match but was replaced by Valentin Barco with just over 20 minutes remaining after experiencing some discomfort.
Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Alonso confirmed that the 24-year-old had recovered and would be available for the meeting at Stamford Bridge.
“No issue, he is okay for tomorrow,” the Chelsea manager said.
However, the news was less encouraging for Lacroix, who sustained a hamstring injury during the Liverpool encounter. The defender left the pitch in first-half stoppage time after appearing to hurt himself while tracking Cody Gakpo.
Alonso revealed that the Frenchman is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines and is unlikely to return before the next international break.
“Max picked up an injury and we expect he is not going to be ready before the international break. He will be a few weeks out,” Alonso explained.
Meanwhile, summer signing Pep Chavarria is expected to return to the matchday squad against Manchester United, providing Chelsea with another defensive option. Jorrel Hato, however, remains unavailable as he continues his recovery.
Martinez is also making progress after undergoing surgery on a broken jaw sustained during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton. Although the Argentina international will miss Saturday’s fixture, there is optimism that he could return sooner than initially expected.
Alonso suggested that Martinez has a chance of becoming available before the international break but stressed that further medical assessments would be needed next week.
“Yes, there is a chance,” the Chelsea manager confirmed. “We still need to wait until next week, but there’s a chance.”
Caicedo's availability and Chavarria's expected return offer Chelsea a boost, although Alonso must prepare for the Manchester United fixture without Lacroix and Hato.
