Bayern Munich chief claims 24-year-old French forward is better than Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal

According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has generated controversy after declaring that Michael Olise is a better footballer than Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal.

Hoeness shared his admiration for the French winger during an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, praising his attacking abilities and expressing confidence that the 24-year-old could eventually become the best player in the world.

“Michael Olise is on his way to becoming the best player in the world. For me, he is better than Lamine Yamal,” Hoeness said.

The Bayern Munich honorary president also explained why he rates Olise so highly, pointing to the winger’s ability to score goals, create opportunities and use his pace to trouble opposition defenders.

“He scores goals, provides assists, is fast… He is practically the perfect player,” he added.

Olise has continued to strengthen his position at Bayern Munich since arriving from Crystal Palace. His technical skills, creativity and contributions in the attacking third have helped establish him as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football.

His impressive displays have also brought him into discussions about the world's best wingers, with Hoeness convinced that the French international possesses the qualities needed to reach the highest level of the game.

However, his comparison with Yamal is likely to provoke strong reactions among Barcelona fans.

At just 19, the Spanish international has already become a crucial member of Barcelona's squad under manager Hansi Flick. His outstanding dribbling, vision and creativity have made him one of the team's most influential attacking players.

Beyond his goals and assists, Yamal's ability to draw multiple defenders towards him creates valuable space for his teammates. Despite his young age, he has also assumed significant responsibilities for the Spanish national team.

Although Hoeness has made his preference clear, deciding which of the two players is superior remains subjective. Both wingers offer different qualities to their respective teams, and their performances in the coming seasons will continue to fuel comparisons between them.

The debate comes as Barcelona prepare for their crucial El Clasico meeting with Real Madrid. Yamal will be determined to produce an impressive display and help his team secure a positive result against their fierce rivals.

Meanwhile, Olise will aim to continue his impressive progress at Bayern Munich and strengthen his reputation as one of Europe's leading attacking talents.
