Arsenal Officially Confirm Squad Heading to 2026 Messi Cup

Arsenal have officially confirmed their under-16 squad for the 2026 Messi Cup, with the international youth competition getting underway in Miami, United States. The tournament provides the club’s emerging talents with an opportunity to measure themselves against some of the most highly regarded youth academies in world football.

The competition has expanded considerably since its inaugural edition in 2025, which featured eight teams. This year’s tournament includes 16 sides, bringing together promising young players from Europe and South America. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are among the English representatives competing against international opposition.

Arsenal face a demanding opening schedule, beginning their group-stage campaign against Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys on Sunday. They will then take on Barcelona on Monday before concluding their group fixtures against Brazilian side Palmeiras on Tuesday. The three matches will test the young Gunners against opponents known for developing talented footballers.

All three of Arsenal’s group-stage fixtures are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. However, reports have highlighted possible differences between the listed kick-off times and those appearing on British television schedules. With the clocks changing in the United Kingdom during the tournament, supporters have been advised to consult updated listings to confirm the correct broadcast times.

Disney+ is scheduled to show Arsenal’s three group matches live in the UK, giving supporters an opportunity to follow the academy side throughout the opening phase of the competition.

The tournament’s format means Arsenal must finish among the top two teams in their group to qualify for the knockout stage, which will feature the eight highest-placed sides. Teams finishing third or fourth will instead compete in the lower classification bracket to determine their final positions.

The club’s official squad includes Albie Shea, Kendrick Van Djoy, Jaden Maghoma, Abdul Zakari, Travis Chilard-Martin, Giovahn Jones, Reiss Tweneboa Kodua, Darius Odeyemi, Max Chuderski and Blake Day King.

Other selected players are Isaiah Matthews, Beau Luton, Jayce Smith, Leo Aliadiere, Frankie Wyatt, Fletcher McBryde and Jayden Anidi. The group will be aiming to make a strong impression while gaining valuable experience against players from different footballing backgrounds.

Jaden Maghoma is among the squad members who have already gained experience at a higher age-group level. The youngster has made five appearances for Arsenal’s under-19 side this season, scoring twice and providing an assist. His performances could make him one of the players to watch during the tournament.

Leo Aliadiere also has an interesting footballing background. The son of former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere, he has previously attended England under-15 training camps, giving him experience within the national youth setup.

Travis Chilard-Martin is another player attracting attention because of his international involvement. He has represented both England and France at under-16 level this season, making him an intriguing prospect as he continues his development.

For Arsenal, the Messi Cup represents more than an opportunity to compete for honours. Facing leading academies from across the world will expose the players to different styles, tactical approaches and levels of competition. Strong performances in Miami could also help individuals gain recognition within the club and strengthen their prospects of progressing through its academy ranks.

With a challenging group schedule and several promising prospects in the squad, Arsenal will be hoping to make the most of the international experience and demonstrate the quality of their next generation of players.
