Chelsea Manager Confirms Three Players Will Miss Everton Clash Due To Injury

According to a report by Chelsea Football Club’s on Friday, October 16, 2026, manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Emmanuel Emegha, Jamie Gittens and Reece James will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Everton because of injuries.

Chelsea will aim to build on their impressive 5-1 victory over Bournemouth in their previous league fixture. However, Alonso must prepare his team for the trip to Merseyside without three players who remain unavailable.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Alonso confirmed that no additional injury problems had emerged. However, Emegha experienced a minor setback during Thursday’s training session and will not be ready for Saturday’s encounter.

Although the striker’s problem is not considered serious, Chelsea are unwilling to rush his return. Alonso expects him to resume training next week if his recovery continues as planned.

Meanwhile, Gittens remains sidelined after sustaining an injury while representing England’s Under 21 team. The winger is expected to miss several weeks while undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, reducing Chelsea’s options in attack.

Captain Reece James is also unavailable after undergoing surgery for a knee injury sustained during training last Friday. Chelsea have not confirmed an exact date for his return, with the defender expected to spend several weeks recovering.

Despite James’ absence, Alonso remains confident that the England international can continue supporting the team through his experience and leadership while working towards full fitness.

James’ injury is another setback for Chelsea, given his defensive abilities and contribution to attacking moves whenever he is available.

Attention will now turn to Saturday’s meeting with Everton, where Chelsea will attempt to secure another victory and maintain their positive momentum.

Both teams have collected 10 points in the Premier League standings, making the encounter important for their efforts to climb the table.

Alonso will be hoping his available players can maintain Chelsea’s recent attacking form and deliver another strong performance despite the absence of key members of the squad.
