According to a report by Madrid Universal on Friday, October 16, 2026, Real Madrid could welcome Eder Militao back into the squad after 181 days on the sidelines due to injury, with Jose Mourinho considering the Brazilian defender for Sunday’s La Liga meeting with Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos return to league action after securing an exciting 4-3 comeback victory over AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week. Despite that impressive result, Real Madrid face a difficult situation in La Liga, having fallen six points behind table leaders Barcelona.
Vinicius Junior’s four-match suspension has further weakened Mourinho’s options ahead of the Sevilla fixture. Militao’s possible return could therefore provide a significant boost as the Spanish giants attempt to reduce the gap at the top of the standings.
According to journalist Sergio Quirante, the 28-year-old centre-back is being considered for inclusion in the matchday squad after spending more than six months recovering from his injury.
Militao has been out of action since April, when he suffered a serious hamstring injury that required surgery. The Brazilian subsequently embarked on an extended rehabilitation programme before rejoining group training during the recent international break.
However, despite making progress in his recovery, Mourinho decided not to include him in the squads for Real Madrid’s matches against Villarreal and Roma. The Portuguese manager chose to avoid rushing the defender back into competitive football, preferring to give him additional time to regain his fitness.
That cautious approach could change this weekend, as Militao is now being considered for the home encounter against Sevilla.
Although his potential return does not necessarily mean he will immediately regain a place in the starting lineup, his availability would provide Real Madrid with another defensive option. The Brazilian remains an important member of the team’s central defence when fully fit.
Nevertheless, his history of injuries means Real Madrid are unlikely to take unnecessary risks with his recovery. Militao has reportedly missed more than 700 days through injuries over the past three seasons, highlighting the importance of carefully managing his return.
If the defender features against Sevilla, Rodrygo Goes and Raul Asencio would be Real Madrid’s only remaining injury-related absentees. Meanwhile, Ferland Mendy has returned to training and is gradually approaching a comeback.
