Karim Zito Axed After AshantiGold 04 Crisis

AshantiGold 04 have reportedly parted ways with head coach Karim Zito following concerns over the team’s inconsistent performances, disappointing away results and alleged disagreements within the technical team.

According to a report by KessbenTV on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the decision followed discussions within the club’s management about the team’s performance during the early stages of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

AshantiGold 04 chief executive officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko explained that the club expected improved performances despite being newly promoted to the top flight.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Obaapa Radio, Akuoko stressed that the club’s ambitions required consistent results rather than lowered expectations because of their recent promotion.

“As a serious club, you always want to win,” he said.

“I’m not a leader who always lowers expectations just because we are a newly promoted side,” he added.

Akuoko clarified that management was not demanding a league title at all costs but wanted the team to demonstrate greater consistency, particularly when playing away from home.

“We are not saying we have to win the league at all costs, but we simply want consistent results. Our away performances have been poor,” he stated.

The CEO also revealed that he had received reports suggesting that members of the technical team were experiencing difficulties working together. He expressed concern that the alleged disagreements could have affected the team’s performances.

“The second reason is that, personally, I received reports that the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our results,” he added.

Zito joined AshantiGold 04 in February 2026 after leaving Asante Kotoko. He subsequently guided the Obuasi-based club to promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in its history.

However, the team’s reported struggles to maintain consistent results during the opening weeks of the new campaign raised concerns about its progress in the top division.

On October 27, 2026, AshantiGold 04 announced that Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeeper trainer Robert Dabo had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.

A caretaker coach has reportedly been appointed to manage the team while the club works towards appointing a permanent head coach and technical director.

The changes represent a significant shift for AshantiGold 04 as the newly promoted side seeks to improve its performances and establish itself in Ghana’s top-flight competition.
