Emiliano Martínez has resumed individual training as he continues recovering from a fractured jaw, offering encouragement to Chelsea supporters who are eagerly awaiting his return to competitive football.
The Argentine goalkeeper sustained the injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton after colliding with defender Jarrad Branthwaite while challenging for the ball. The incident required an extended period of treatment on the pitch before Martínez was taken to hospital for further medical examinations.
Subsequent checks confirmed that he had suffered a fractured jaw, requiring surgery. The operation was reportedly successful, but the injury ruled him out of Chelsea’s following fixtures, depriving the team of an important member of its squad.
According to an update from Sky Sport, Martínez is now working individually as he progresses through his rehabilitation. Although he has yet to rejoin full team training, his return to the training ground represents an encouraging development in his recovery.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso previously indicated that the goalkeeper was feeling better following the operation. However, the club intends to proceed cautiously and follow the recommendations of its medical specialists before determining when he can resume playing.
The coaching staff will be keen to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on Martínez to return prematurely. Given the nature of his injury, ensuring that he has recovered sufficiently will remain the priority, with his progress assessed throughout the rehabilitation process.
Individual training provides an opportunity for the goalkeeper to work towards rebuilding his fitness while remaining under the club’s supervision. Nevertheless, this stage of recovery does not automatically mean that he is ready to participate in full training or competitive matches.
Chelsea must meanwhile continue managing his absence by relying on the goalkeepers available to Alonso. Young shot-stopper Mike Penders has already been given opportunities to step in, and he could remain an important option while Martínez completes his recovery.
Penders will be expected to make the most of any further opportunities, particularly as Chelsea navigate their upcoming fixtures without their experienced Argentine goalkeeper. The club’s immediate objective will be to maintain stability in goal until Martínez is medically cleared to return.
Martínez’s experience and quality make him a valuable member of the squad, and his eventual comeback would give Alonso another established option between the posts. His return could also provide additional competition within the goalkeeping department as Chelsea continue their campaign.
For now, the goalkeeper’s focus remains on completing the necessary stages of rehabilitation and restoring his fitness without risking further complications. While his individual training offers a positive indication of progress, no definitive return date has been established in the available update.
Chelsea supporters will welcome the latest news and hope that Martínez can return to action soon. However, the club is expected to prioritise his long-term recovery over any immediate demands for his availability.
The coming period will be important as Martínez continues building towards a full return. If his rehabilitation proceeds as planned and medical specialists approve his progress, Chelsea could soon be closer to welcoming the Argentine back into the squad.
