According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, Jordan Henderson could face a hostile reception at Anfield when Chelsea take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round, following a celebration that angered some supporters of his former club.
The former Liverpool captain upset sections of the Reds fanbase after tapping the Chelsea badge on his shirt during the Blues’ 5-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth earlier this month.
Henderson, who joined Chelsea on a free transfer this summer after leaving Brentford, scored twice against Bournemouth, including an impressive free-kick that found the top-right corner.
The 36-year-old celebrated his goals by showing his affection for Chelsea, a gesture that attracted mixed reactions from supporters of both clubs.
The midfielder spent 12 years at Liverpool and captained the team during the successful Jurgen Klopp era. He helped the Merseyside club win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles, becoming an important figure in the club’s modern history.
However, his latest celebration has drawn criticism from some Liverpool supporters ahead of his possible return to Anfield.
One Liverpool supporter account criticised the midfielder, writing: "Jordan Henderson tapped on the Chelsea badge twice, yeah, he's a rat."
Another fan added: "His behaviour tapping the badge like the club means the world to him is exactly why people don't like Jordan Henderson."
A third supporter also expressed disappointment, saying: "I will never respect this Jordan Henderson guy," while others described the celebration as a mistake and suggested he had become carried away.
Chelsea supporters, however, welcomed the gesture, interpreting it as a sign of Henderson’s commitment to his new club.
One Blues fan responded: "Bro even tapped the badge," before adding: "Proper Chels right there." Another supporter suggested that Henderson could eventually become Chelsea captain.
The contrasting reactions have added another talking point ahead of Wednesday’s encounter, with Henderson potentially facing an uncomfortable reception if he features in Xabi Alonso’s team.
Liverpool will be looking to secure a fifth consecutive victory, while Chelsea will aim to respond after suffering a 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
