Romeo Lavia Shares How Eden Hazard is Helping Him Thrive at Chelsea This Season

According to a report by Football London on Monday, November 2, 2026, Romeo Lavia’s impressive performances for Chelsea this season have attracted attention, with club legend Eden Hazard continuing to play an important role in supporting the Belgian midfielder behind the scenes.

Chelsea recently secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, with Lavia delivering what many regarded as his best performance since joining the club. Hazard was present at Stamford Bridge and celebrated his compatriot’s impressive display during Saturday’s encounter.

Hazard played an influential role in convincing Lavia to leave Southampton for Chelsea in 2023, and their relationship has remained strong since then. The former Blues forward continues to maintain regular contact with the midfielder, offering encouragement away from the public spotlight.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Lavia revealed the importance of their relationship, saying: “He’s a very important figure for me and we speak quite a lot.”

The Belgian midfielder also explained that seeing the happiness and pride in Hazard’s eyes gives him “that extra motivation” whenever he steps onto the pitch.

Meanwhile, Lavia's development under manager Xabi Alonso has been particularly noticeable in his defensive performances. According to FotMob statistics, his average defensive contributions have increased to 14.56 this season, compared with 8.83 last campaign.

His tackling numbers have also improved, rising from 1.91 to 3.15 per 90 minutes. Similarly, his interceptions have increased from 1.19 to 2.91, highlighting his growing influence in Chelsea's midfield.

Lavia's recorded top speed has also improved from 31.9 kilometres per hour last season to 32.7 this term.

Following his impressive display against Manchester United, Lavia and his Chelsea teammates are preparing for their upcoming trip to Sunderland. Alonso will hope the midfielder maintains his current form as the Blues look to continue their progress, with Hazard's support providing additional encouragement.
