Alexander Isak played a key role as Liverpool recorded a 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on Sunday, contributing a goal that helped the Reds secure all three points.
The Swedish forward scored Liverpool’s second goal during an impressive opening period, giving the hosts a commanding advantage after Pascal Gross had put the ball into his own net. Liverpool’s early attacking pressure proved decisive, allowing them to establish control before Brighton could settle into the contest.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Gross inadvertently directed the ball into his own goal. The breakthrough boosted the home side’s confidence, and they quickly capitalised on their momentum to increase the pressure on Brighton’s defence.
Four minutes later, Isak doubled Liverpool’s lead with a close-range finish. The goal followed a well-timed contribution from French forward Bradley Barcola, whose assist created an opportunity for the Swedish striker to score into an unguarded net.
Isak’s positioning inside the penalty area proved crucial, as he anticipated the opportunity and ensured Liverpool converted their attacking move. His finish gave the Reds a two-goal cushion and placed them in a strong position to manage the remainder of the match.
The striker had threatened Brighton’s goal shortly before finding the net. In the 20th minute, he created room for himself near the edge of the penalty area before attempting a shot. However, the effort lacked precision and sailed over the crossbar.
Isak responded to that missed chance almost immediately by scoring Liverpool’s second goal. His ability to recover quickly and remain alert in the penalty area underlined his contribution to the team’s attacking performance.
Liverpool looked dangerous throughout the first half, using quick combinations and purposeful movement to create openings. Their ability to move the ball effectively helped expose weaknesses in Brighton’s defensive organisation, while Isak’s movement gave the home side an important attacking option.
Brighton attempted to improve after the interval and searched for a route back into the game. The visitors pushed forward in an effort to reduce the deficit, but Liverpool remained disciplined and limited their opponents’ ability to turn their possession into goals.
The Reds’ defensive organisation proved important as the match progressed. Although Brighton continued looking for opportunities, the hosts maintained their two-goal advantage and prevented the visitors from making a decisive impact in the final third.
Isak remained involved until the 77th minute, when he was substituted for Lewis Koumas. By that stage, his goal had helped establish the platform Liverpool needed to control the contest and protect their lead.
Neither side managed to score again during the second half, allowing Liverpool to see out the match and claim a comfortable victory. Brighton’s attempts to respond ultimately failed to produce a breakthrough against the home side’s defence.
Isak’s finish and intelligent movement were central to Liverpool’s success. His goal extended the hosts’ advantage early in the match, while his positioning and attacking threat helped keep Brighton under pressure. The victory also reflected Liverpool’s effective first-half performance and their ability to maintain control after the break.
