Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel finished 10th in the final rankings for the 2026 Yashin Trophy, an award recognising the world's best goalkeepers. Spain and Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simón won the prize, while Kobel missed out on a higher position despite an impressive season with Dortmund.
The Swiss international enjoyed a strong 2025–26 Bundesliga campaign, keeping 15 clean sheets in 34 league appearances. His performances helped Dortmund finish second in the league, with the team conceding just 34 goals throughout the season.
Kobel also made 92 saves, demonstrating his importance to Dortmund's defensive strength. His 15 clean sheets matched the club's Bundesliga record, previously set by former goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.
Despite these achievements, Kobel finished at the bottom of the final top 10. The result may disappoint Dortmund supporters who believe his consistency deserved greater recognition.
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya finished second in the rankings, followed by Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois in third place. PSG's Matvey Safonov claimed fourth, while Argentina international Emiliano Martínez finished fifth.
Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha ranked sixth, with Barcelona's Joan García seventh. Yassine Bounou of Al-Hilal finished eighth, while Al-Ahli's Edouard Mendy took ninth place.
The final rankings reflected strong competition among several goalkeepers who delivered notable performances for their clubs and national teams.
This was Kobel's second appearance among the Yashin Trophy's top 10 nominees. He also finished 10th in 2024, making another top-10 finish a notable achievement, even if he was unable to climb higher this time.
Kobel will now look to maintain his strong form with Borussia Dortmund. Consistent performances, more clean sheets and team success could strengthen his chances of earning a better position in next year's rankings.
For Dortmund, keeping Kobel in top form will remain important as the club continues its pursuit of major trophies.
