Four Clubs Now Want to Sign Chelsea New Signing in January Just Days After His Premier League Debut

Four Premier League clubs are reportedly tracking Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders following his recent debut in England’s top flight. According to a report published by The Chelsea Chronicle on October 21, 2026, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Bournemouth and Everton have expressed interest in the 21-year-old Belgian as he prepares for a potentially extended run in Chelsea’s first team.

Penders made his Premier League debut during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton last Saturday after Emiliano Martínez was forced off with a fractured jaw. The injury is expected to sideline the Argentine goalkeeper for approximately 45 to 60 days, creating an opportunity for Penders to demonstrate his abilities at the highest level.

The Belgian is now expected to start when Chelsea face Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. His performances during Martínez’s recovery period could prove important in determining his place in head coach Xabi Alonso’s long-term plans, particularly if he can deliver consistent displays between the posts.

According to Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth and Everton are monitoring Penders’ situation. However, the reported interest does not necessarily mean Chelsea are willing to negotiate a transfer, especially with their goalkeeping options already affected by injury.

The Stamford Bridge club reportedly regard Penders as an important part of their future plans and are unlikely to approve a permanent departure during the January transfer window. His potential value to the squad has increased with Martínez unavailable, making it difficult for Chelsea to consider losing another goalkeeper during a demanding period of the season.

Penders’ previous experience in France has also helped raise his profile. During his time with Strasbourg, he gained valuable senior-level experience that contributed to his development and strengthened his reputation as one of the promising young goalkeepers in Chelsea’s setup.

Alonso will likely want to maintain sufficient depth in goal while Martínez recovers. Allowing Penders to leave would reduce the manager’s available options and potentially create additional complications if further injuries occur.

The coming weeks could therefore represent a significant opportunity for the young Belgian. Strong performances against Tottenham and in subsequent fixtures would give him a chance to establish himself more firmly within Chelsea’s plans and increase competition for the starting position.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott ahead of January. Bournemouth had previously been reluctant to part with the midfielder but are now thought to be more receptive to the possibility of a transfer.

For the moment, retaining Penders appears to be Chelsea’s priority. Although four Premier League sides are reportedly interested in signing him, the opportunity to gain regular first-team minutes during Martínez’s absence could be crucial to his development and future at Stamford Bridge.
