According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Monday, October 19, 2026, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Antoine Semenyo will be sidelined for around eight weeks due to an injury, dealing a blow to the club as it prepares for crucial Premier League and UEFA Champions League fixtures.
Semenyo sustained the injury during Manchester City's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday. The Ghanaian forward came on as a substitute but appeared to experience discomfort before the final whistle.
After medical examinations, Maresca confirmed that the injury would keep the attacker out for a considerable period. However, the manager expressed relief that the problem was not as serious as initially feared.
The scan helped the club gain a clearer understanding of the injury and establish a recovery plan for the forward.
Semenyo's absence represents a setback for City because of his pace, physical strength and ability to trouble opposition defenders. His versatility also provides the team with an important attacking option, particularly during demanding matches.
With the Ghanaian international expected to miss several weeks of action, other forwards may be required to shoulder greater responsibilities. City will also need to manage its squad carefully as it continues competing in multiple competitions.
Meanwhile, Maresca has provided a positive update on Erling Haaland, who appeared to experience discomfort towards the end of the victory over Ipswich Town.
The Norwegian striker scored twice during the match but raised concerns after seemingly struggling with an injury late in the game.
Speaking about Haaland's condition, Maresca said: "Erling Haaland is better now, Semenyo will be out for eight weeks."
The manager also suggested that Haaland could be available for Manchester City's upcoming Champions League fixture against AEK Athens.
"Erling can be available, we will see. He was quite good yesterday, better. We will see today," Maresca added.
Haaland's potential return would provide a major boost to City because of his goalscoring threat and influence in attack. However, the club will continue assessing his fitness before deciding whether he is ready to play.
While Semenyo's injury is disappointing news for City supporters, Haaland's improvement offers some encouragement. The club will now look for ways to cope without the Ghanaian forward while hoping its leading striker can return to action soon.
