The White House of Football: The Story and Legacy of Real Madrid

Few sports institutions hold a legacy as storied or dominant as Real Madrid Club de Fútbol. Named FIFA’s Club of the Century in 2000, the Spanish titan has spent over a hundred years defining global football excellence, sporting prestige, and European dominance.

The Birth of the Royal Club (1902–1940s)

The club’s history began officially on March 6, 1902, as Madrid Foot-ball Club, founded by a group of academics and students including Julian Palacios and the Padrós brothers (Juan and Carlos). The iconic all-white kit—inspired by the English club Corinthian FC—was adopted from the very start, giving birth to the team’s famous moniker, Los Blancos (The Whites).

In 1920, King Alfonso XIII bestowed the title "Real" (Royal) upon the club along with the royal crown on its crest. Real Madrid went on to become one of the founding members of La Liga in 1929, capturing its first league titles in the early 1930s before the Spanish Civil War temporarily disrupted competitive football.
