According to a report by Evening Standard on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as the club prepares to open its Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City.
Rashford returned to action for United last week, making his first appearance for the club in almost two years during their 4-2 friendly defeat to AC Milan.
The England international spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona. However, Barcelona decided not to make his move permanent, leaving the forward back at Carrington with his future still unresolved.
Manager Michael Carrick is reportedly open to keeping Rashford, although it remains unclear whether the striker will secure a transfer before the window closes.
Rashford is not expected to start against Hull at the MKM Stadium because of the uncertainty surrounding his situation. However, he could be included on the bench and potentially make his first Premier League appearance for United since April 2025.
Carrick is expected to use Patrick Dorgu, Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo behind Bryan Mbeumo, who could operate as the central striker while Benjamin Sesko continues recovering from a shin injury.
Andrey Santos is also expected to make his competitive debut after impressing during pre-season following his move from Chelsea. He could start alongside Youri Tielemans in midfield, with Mason Mount unavailable through injury.
Senne Lammens is expected to continue in goal, while Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw could form part of the defensive line. Diogo Dalot is also expected to start at right-back.
United are therefore tipped to use a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lammens; Dalot, Martinez, Maguire, Shaw; Santos, Tielemans; Dorgu, Fernandes, Amad; and Mbeumo making up the predicted XI.
