According to a report by Football London on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry Sporting CP have recently parted ways with manager Rui Borges, with former Lyon boss Paulo Fonseca expected to take charge at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
The managerial transition could present Derry with a fresh opportunity to impress and secure a more prominent role in the first team.
Chelsea will also be keen for the teenager to take advantage of the situation, having sanctioned his move to Portugal with the expectation that he would gain valuable regular first-team experience.
The Blues remain closely interested in his development and will continue monitoring his progress before his scheduled return to Cobham next summer.
Derry reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea in July by signing a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
Reflecting on the agreement, the winger described it as a dream come true, while expressing his excitement about being part of the club's long-term plans.
It's a dream come true, obviously, to commit my future to such a big club like Chelsea, he said.
The youngster also expressed his ambition to play a significant role in Chelsea's future success after getting an initial taste of senior football.
Derry made three first-team appearances for the Blues last season, making his senior debut in February under former manager Liam Rosenior.
He came on as a late substitute during Chelsea's 4-0 FA Cup victory over Hull City before featuring again from the bench in their victory over Wrexham.
The winger subsequently made his Premier League debut in May under interim head coach Calum McFarlane.
However, the occasion ended on a worrying note when he suffered a head injury following a collision. He was stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital for further assessment.
Thankfully, the injury proved not to be serious, and Derry returned to Chelsea's substitutes' bench just a couple of weeks later.
