Chelsea’s Decision To Part With Nicolas Jackson Is Looking Increasingly Questionable

Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Nicolas Jackson has come under fresh scrutiny after the Senegalese striker made an impressive start to his career at Aston Villa. His recent goalscoring performances have raised questions about whether the London club ended their relationship with the forward before he had fully developed his potential.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Jackson has rediscovered his scoring touch since joining Villa, producing a remarkable run of goals over the past two months. The 25-year-old has found the net eight times during that period, including a brace against Manchester City and another goal in the meeting with Fulham.

Five of his recent strikes have come in the Premier League. During the period covered by the report, only Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak have scored more league goals, highlighting the impact Jackson has made since moving to Unai Emery’s side.

Villa secured his services from Chelsea during the summer transfer window for an initial €55 million. Performance-related bonuses could increase the overall package to approximately €76 million. Chelsea had also benefited financially from an earlier arrangement with Bayern Munich, receiving a €16.5 million loan fee when Jackson spent the previous season in Germany.

Nevertheless, his current form has shifted attention towards the circumstances surrounding his departure from Stamford Bridge. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reportedly became dissatisfied with Jackson’s inconsistent finishing and disciplinary issues. Those concerns contributed to the club’s decision to regard him as surplus to requirements before he completed his move to Villa.

His performances under Emery, however, indicate that the striker may be developing the consistency that previously eluded him in west London. The manager already understood Jackson’s abilities, having worked with him at Villarreal before the forward joined Chelsea in 2023.

Miguel Alvarez, who coached Villarreal’s reserve side, previously discussed Jackson’s development during an interview with Mundo Deportivo. He recalled that the striker displayed “incredible talent” from an early age, although his progress encountered difficulties following an unsuccessful loan spell at Mirandés.

Alvarez explained that repositioning Jackson from the wing into a central attacking role played an important part in his development. He identified the forward’s speed, strength, intelligent movement and ability to attack spaces behind defensive lines as qualities that made him particularly dangerous.

The former coach also pointed to improvements in Jackson’s finishing and technical ability as he gained experience. Those qualities appear increasingly evident in his current performances for Villa, where he is enjoying a productive spell in front of goal.

For Chelsea, the situation creates an interesting subplot as the club continues its rebuilding process under Xabi Alonso. Although Jackson’s sale delivered a significant financial return, his resurgence suggests that his development was not yet complete when he left Stamford Bridge.

If he maintains his present scoring form, questions surrounding Chelsea’s decision could become more prominent. His progress at Villa is already giving supporters reason to reconsider what the club might have lost by allowing him to leave.
